There are so many shortcuts in Adobe Lightroom and learning them can really accelerate your workflow and improve your results. Applications like this are built, then get patches and upgrades over time. In the non-subscriptions Photoshop world, you bought Photoshop for something like $600. You got free upgrades for point versions 6 -> 6.1 -> 6.3. Why do I say this? well, software has bugs and people have many feature requests, there are new cameras, new formats and plenty of other things to support.īut when 7 came out you have to buy again. So, the subscription model gives the software company a stream of revenue to employ the needed developers and support staff and thus they are releasing constant updates and upgrades. Instead of 1-3 per year, we are now getting monthly updates. If you look at the costs over time, it is about the same if you need the updates. If you bought LR 5, you can't use the latest camera formats with it. So, for a much lower cost of entry, we are getting fresh software that always works with the latest stuff. Is that important to you?Ĭan you do this with free software? Up to you to decide. For me, the tutorials and shortened time to learn Adobe CC was in the hundreds of hours which has a financial value to me. Search for how to do something in LR or PS and then do the same search in the free competitor. Some are the same, but many are harder in other tools and there are a lot less free tutorials.Īdobe has made a software suite that integrated and makes creating very nice. Other tools can work, but they often have limitations or limited training resources.
